“The presence of being an island dweller has been put into focus since the lockdown started – the juxtaposition of isolation and tight knit communities, of free time and boredom, and of longing to belong and longing to be safe and excluded from the outside.
By using watercolours in an impressionistic style, where colours and lines interweave with each other, I hope to capture the complex and intangible mix of the emotions of lockdown and the relief nature brings to me.
Formatting the artwork in postcard sized paintings is a nod to the Isle of Wight’s heavy tourism trade, where travellers leave with postcard memories of our scenery to take home.
I hope my artwork gives a gentle push to the viewer to recollect a time of outside and safety”.
