Behind Locked Doors – Karmen Hirst

I realised in the first lockdown that everyone all over the world could be feeling like me, so I decided to create a worldwide community project.
My idea was to try and bring everyone together to share their lockdown experiences happy or sad, no matter what they were.
The rules were to submit one picture of their lockdown experience with one word or sentence describing how they felt, the only other information was to include where they were from in the world.
I asked as many people as I could to join in the project posting it on social media sites, asking family, friends but mainly asking people to share and take part.
The response was amazing I received images from all over the world, some happy some sad and some frightening. I have over 250 images and I’m still receiving images now. When I saw this competition, I decided to make my essay into a motion photographic essay, with a selection of some of the amazing images. I feel very emotional about this project, it helped me through lockdown and made me realise that I wasn’t alone.

The Apollo Players are very familiar with stage performing, but during lockdown our members have produced their own original pieces of drama specially written for online performance and recorded them in the safety of their own homes as well as in our lovely theatre when allowed.

The Duchess of Argyll is a lively monologue about and by a lady who may not be exactly what she seems…..This is just one example of material written, acted, filmed and produced by Apollo members – there is much more on the YouTube channel alongside it.
